Business creations in 2024 Rebound in business creations

In 2024, in France, business creations rose again, reaching a new record level of 1,111,200 new businesses established. After a period of stabilisation between 2021 and 2023, the number of business creations rebounded significantly in 2024 (+6%, after -1% in 2023).

The registration of individual businesses under the micro-entrepreneur status increased by 7%, and company creations rose by 5%. In contrast, creations of conventional sole proprietorships continued to decline (-3%).

Business creations rebounded in most sectors, particularly in transportation and storage (+25%) and trade (+6%). Administrative and support service activities continued to rise (+16%). Conversely, business creations declined once again in the specialised, scientific, and technical activities sector (-6%) and in real estate activities (-5%).

Business creations in the manufacturing sector were more frequently located in rural areas compared to other sectors: in 2024, 41% of manufacturing business creations were established in rural areas, compared to 24% of total business creations.
