Cereal prices bounced back over a month and year on year; those of oilseed fell back over one month and sped up year on year
In December 2024, cereal prices bounced back over one month (+4,3% after ‑2.9% in November, and ‑0.3% in October). Prices were back on the rise for soft wheat (+5,6% after ‑3.4%) supported by international demand and difficult growing conditions in Russia, barley (+4,3% after ‑3.2%) and maize (+1,9% after ‑2.1%), due to lower forecasts in world stocks. Durum wheat prices fell back (‑0.5% after +2.0%), facing Canadian competition. Year on year, cereal prices rose for the first time since seven months (+0,5% after ‑3.7% in November, and ‑3.1% in October).
Oilseed prices fell back over one month in December 2024 (‑0.9% after +3.9% in November, and +10.7% in October): they fell back for sunflower (‑2.8% after +3.2%) and slowed down substantially for rapeseed (+0,2% after +4.5%). Year on year, oilseed prices sped up (+19.7% after +18.0% in November, and +15.3% in October).

Year on year, the fall of fresh vegetable prices intensified; prices of fresh fruits slowed down
In December 2024, the fall of fresh vegetable prices intensified year on year (‑10.0% after ‑6.2% in November, and +7.3% in October). Prices continued to go down for cabbages (‑44.0% after ‑60.5%), tomatoes (‑20.3% after ‑22.3%), coloured onions (‑17.6% after ‑19.5%), carrots (‑16.3% after ‑8.1%) and leeks (‑10.0% after ‑0.6%). They fell by 7.0% for salads after a nearly stability in November (‑0.1%). They fell back substantially for chicories (‑19.8% after +14.7%), mushrooms (‑6.1% after +6.7%), and moderately for spinach (‑2.3% after +23.0%). On the contrary, prices bounced back firmly for radishes (+28.5% after ‑8.3%), and moderately for celery roots (+4.7% after ‑2.3%). They rose again for garlic (+22.2% as in November), shallots (+20.3% after +17.4%), pumpkins (+10.5% after +10.3%), and red beetroots (+9.5% after +13.2%).
In December 2024, fresh fruit prices slowed down year on year (+0.6% after +2.6% in November, and +1.0% in October). Prices rose firmly again for nuts (+29.8% after +31.7%), and sped up for kiwis (+8.7% after +7.7%). They fell back substantially for clementines (‑6.1% after +2.3%), and moderately for pears (‑1.4% after +0.9%). The fall in prices of apples intensified (‑2.9% after ‑1.3%).

Animal prices slowed down over one month and sped up year on year
In December 2024, animal prices slowed down over one month (+1.7% after +2.7% in November). They continued to rise for large cattle (+2.5% after +2.4% in November), sheep (+2.2% after +2.3%), and poultry (+1.1% after +1.0%). Those of pigs slowed firmly down (+0.9% after +6.2%).
Year on year, animal prices sped up in December 2024 (+4.7% after +2.9% in November, and ‑0.6% in October). They sped up for large cattle (+8.9% after +5.7%) and sheep (+19.0% after +17.6%), and slowed down again for calves (+7.7% after +8.1% in November, and +9.3% in October). The fall in prices softened for poultry (‑2.8% after ‑4.4% in November), and continued for pigs (‑2.6% after ‑2.3%).

In December 2024, milk prices slowed down over one month (+1.2% after +2.1% in November): those of cow milk slowed down (+1.0% after +2.2%), while those of goat milk sped up (+0.9% after +0.3%). Year on year, milk prices sped up (+6.1% after +4.7% in November, and +3.0% in October).

Input purchase prices were nearly stable over one month but continued to go down year on year
In December 2024, purchase prices of intermediate consumption were nearly stable over one month (‑0.1% after a stability in November). Prices slowed down for energy (+0.9% after +1.2%) and for the maintenance of materials (+0.2% after +0.3%). Prices of the small equipment and tools fell back (‑0.8% after +0.3%). The fall in prices intensified for plant protection products (‑3.3% after ‑1.4%) and continued for seeds (‑0.3% after ‑0.2%). They were nearly stable for animal feed (+0.1% after ‑0.4%), the “other goods and services” (+0.1% after ‑0.1%), and stable for veterinary expenses (after +0.1% in November), fertilizers and soil improvers (after +0.5%), and the maintenance of buildings (after +0.3%). Year on year, purchase prices of intermediate consumption dropped for the twenty-first consecutive month (‑2.6% in December, after ‑3.8% in November).
In December 2024, the prices of investment goods were nearly stable again over one month (+0.1% after ‑0.1% in November) and continued to go down year on year (‑1.7% after ‑1.5%).

The year-on-year percentage change of the global index of producer prices for agricultural products in November 2024 has been revised upwards by 0.1 percentage points to +1.6%. The year-on-year percentage change of the global index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production in November 2024 is unchanged.

The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2020. The weight-coefficients of fruit and vegetables (fresh or for processing), potatoes, plants and flowers change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. Their variations should therefore be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPPIAP) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonally adjusted.
