In October 2024, output in services was again slightly down (-0.2% after ‑0.7% in September).

Over a month, output in services fell mainly in professional, scientific and technical activities as well in transportation and storage
In October 2024*, output fell again in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑0.5% after ‑0.3%) and transportation and storage (‑0.6% after ‑2.5%), particularly in land transport (‑2.4% after +0.4%). Output fell more slightly in information-communication (‑0.3% after ‑0.5%). It slowed down in arts, entertainment and recreation** (+0.2% after +0.4%) and bounced back moderately in administrative and support service activities (+0.4% after ‑1.1%) and accommodation and food service activities (+0.2% after ‑0.5%). Finally, it was almost stable in real estate activities (‑0.1% as in September).

From August to October 2024, output in services was up by 3.6% compared to the same period a year earlier
Cumulated output for the last three months (August to October 2024) was 3.6% higher than that of the same months a year earlier. This increase was mainly driven by professional, scientific and technical activities (+5.6%), information-communication (+3.3%) and transportation and storage (+3.9%), where water transport was particularly dynamic (+12.6%). Output also increased over a year in administrative and support service activities (+2.0%), arts, entertainment and recreation** (+4.5%), real estate activities (+2.1%) and accommodation and food service activities (+1.9%).
Revisions
The monthly change in the services production index in September 2024 has been revised upwards by +0.3 points compared to the previous release and stands now at ‑0.7% (after rounding).
