Foreign-controlled job in France in 2022 13% of French jobs in the market sector were under foreign control
In 2022, 18,800 foreign-controlled enterprises employed 2.3 million people in France. This represented 13% of the workforce in the mainly non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors. Foreign groups had a strong presence in the Île-de-France region and in the border areas of north-eastern France. Their enterprises were mainly active in industry (one third of jobs under foreign control), wholesale and retail trade and business services. They generated 17% of the French value added. In addition, foreign-controlled enterprises earmarked a less significant part of their value added to tangible investments than enterprises under French control, partly because they operated little in the highest capital intensive sectors.
