3.4 million voters gave a proxy for the 2024 legislative elections
In the 2024 early legislative election, 3.4 million voters, or 7.0% of those registered, used a proxy for at least one of the two rounds. This was more than in the 2022 presidential and legislative elections. In the previous European elections, 874,000 voters, or 1.8% of those registered, used a proxy. More than seven times out of ten, proxy applications were made online.
Young people gave proxy more often than the average: for the legislative elections,
10% of 18-24 year olds and 9% of 25-39 year olds used this method at least once.
In the 2024 legislative elections, 16.7% of voters who gave a proxy made use of the
new possibility, introduced in 2022, of appointing a proxy registered in a different
municipality from that of the principal.
