In July 2024, output in services was almost stable (+0.1%) after a sharp decline in June (-1.8%).

Over a month, output was virtually stable

In July 2024*, output bounced back significantly in transportation and storage (+4.4% after ‑1.0%), due to a sharp acceleration in water transport (+23.8% after +2.2%). Output rebounded more moderately in administrative and support service activities (+0.9% after ‑1.0%) and in accommodation and food service activities (+0.4% after ‑0.9%). On the contrary, it fell significantly in professional, scientific and technical activities (‑1.8% after ‑0.8%), as well as in arts, entertainment and recreation (‑2.9% after ‑7.1%) and more moderately in real estate activities (‑0.3% after ‑2.4%). Finally, it was virtually stable in information-communication (‑0.1% after ‑3.0%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 1.7%

Cumulated output for the last three months (May to July 2024) was 1.7% higher than that of the same months a year earlier. It increased for professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.9%), transportation and storage (+2.6%), administrative and support service activities (+2.0%), information-communication (+1.6%). Although contributing more marginally to the total services, due to their relative weights, output increased significantly in arts, entertainment and recreation (+3.2%) and more moderately in accommodation and food service activities (+1.3%). Conversely, it fell in real estate activities (‑0.8%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in June 2024 has been revised upwards by +0.2 points compared to the previous release and stands now at ‑1.8% (after rounding).
