Salaries in the hospital civil service in 2022 The average net salary fell by 0.4% in real terms against a backdrop of high inflation
In 2022, a hospital civil service (HCS) employee earned on average 2,734 euros net per month in full-time equivalent (FTE) terms. This average included all employees of public hospitals and medico-social institutions such as nursing homes, whether they were civil servants, contract workers or medical staff. In nominal terms (current euros), the average net salary increased by 4.8% relative to 2021. Given the sharp rise in inflation in 2022 (+5.2%, after +1.6% in 2021), the average net salary in real terms decreased (-0.4%) after having risen sharply in 2021 (+2.8%).
Among employees in the HCS, the average net salary of civil servants was almost stable in real terms (-0.1%). It rose by 1.0% for contract workers and fell by 1.5% for medical staff. Salary disparities (between the highest and lowest salaries) in the HCS have widened, particularly among medical staff and contract workers.
Women's net salaries were, on average, 18.3% lower than men's, a gap that has narrowed slightly. The gap for a comparable profile was at 4.0% in 2022.
Among employees working all year round in 2021 and 2022 for the same employer and with the same work share, representing almost two-thirds of all employees in the HCS, the average net salary rose by 2.4% in real terms.
