Monthly change: +0.1% in June; year-on-year change: +2.2%
In June 2024, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1% over one month after 0.0% in May. This virtual stability in prices is the result of the rising in prices of services (+0.3% after +0.1%) and in prices of manufactured products (+0.1% after +0.1%), which was largely offset by a fall in prices of energy (‑0.8% after ‑1.2%), mainly those of petroleum products (‑1.9% after ‑2.4%), and of food (‑0.2% after +0.4%). Over one month the prices of tobacco were stable as in May.
Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices were stable in June 2024, as in May.
Year on year, consumer prices went up by 2.2% in June 2024, after +2.3% in May. This slight decrease of inflation resulted from the year-on-year slowdown in prices of energy (+4.8% after +5.7%) due to the petroleum products (+0.7% after +2.9%), and also in prices of food (+0.8% after +1.3%). Conversely, the prices of services accelerated slightly (+2.9% after +2.8%), while those of manufactured products (0.0% after 0.0%) and tobacco (+8.7% after +8.7%) evolved over a year at the same rate as in May.
Slight increase in core inflation year on year
Year on year, core inflation increased slightly, reaching +1.8% in June 2024, after +1.7% in May.
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased by 0.2% over one month after +0.1% in May. Year on year, it increased by 2.5% in June 2024, after +2.6% in May.
