This municipality has experienced contour changes since 2012 :

  • 01/01/2019 – Moncoutant devient commune déléguée (chef-lieu) au sein de Moncoutant-sur-Sèvre (79179) (commune nouvelle).
  • 01/01/2019 – Création de la commune nouvelle de Moncoutant-sur-Sèvre en lieu et place des communes du Breuil-Bernard (79051), de La Chapelle-Saint-Étienne (79075), de Moncoutant (79179), de Moutiers-sous-Chantemerle (79188), de Pugny (79222) et de Saint-Jouin-de-Milly (79261) devenues déléguées.
