In April 2024, consumer prices increased by 2.2% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - April 2024
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 15 May 2024.
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.2% in April 2024, after +2.3% in March, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This slight decrease in inflation should be explained partly by the slowdown of prices of food and tobacco, partly by the slight year-on-year decrease in those of manufactured products. Contrariwise, the prices of energy should accelerate. Price of services should rise over a year at the same pace as in the previous month.
Over one month, consumer prices should accelerate in April 2024 (+0.5% after +0.2% in March). This acceleration should be due to that of the prices of services, in particular in transport and “other services”. Contrariwise, the prices of energy should decrease again over one month, but at a more moderate pace than in the previous month, while those of manufactured products and of food should be nearly stable.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 2.4% in April 2024, as in March. Over one month, it should accelerate (+0.6% after +0.2% in the previous month).
