In Q4 2023, production costs in construction rose by 0.3% Costs of production indices in construction - fourth quarter 2023
In Q4 2023, the production costs in construction rose by 0.3% over a quarter, after +0.4% in the previous quarter. They decelerated both in civil engineering (+0.5% after +0.9%) and in specialised construction works (+0.2% after +0.4%) and remained virtually stable in construction of buildings (+0.1%, as in the previous quarter). The rise of labour costs (+0.8% after +1.1%) was partially offset by the fall of materials costs.
Year on year, the production costs for construction sped up slightly (+2.2% in Q4 2023 after +1.9% in Q3 2023). They bounced back in civil engineering (+2.2% after -1.0%) because of the upturn of materials costs, accelerated slightly in buildings construction (+2.5% after +2.4%) but slowed down in specialized construction works (+2.1% after +2.5%).
