In accordance with the European Business Statistics Regulation, the index of services production and the associated turnover indices will be disseminated in reference and base 100 in 2021 from 29 March 2024, the date of publication of the January 2024 results.

All data are seasonally and working-day adjusted (SA-WDA).

In November 2023, output in services decreased again over one month (‑0.6% after ‑0.4% in October).

Over a month, output went down in most service sectors

In November 2023, output decreased significantly in administrative and support service activities (‑2.2% after ‑0.7%) and real estate activities (‑2.9% after ‑2.2%). It also went down in information-communication (‑1.4% after ‑0.3%), accommodation and food service activities (‑1.1% after ‑1.0%) and transportation and storage (‑0.7% after +1.4%), particularly in warehousing and support for transportation (‑1.9% after +2.6%). On the contrary, it recovered in arts, entertainment and recreation (+6.5% after ‑3.4%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.5% after ‑0.1%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 1.1%

Output for the last three months (September to November 2023) was 1.1% higher than the same three months a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+5.3%), and more moderately in accommodation and food service activities (+1.8%), administrative and support service activities (+1.0%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.6%), and arts, entertainment and recreation (+2.9%). On the contrary, it declined in transportation and storage (‑3.5%), where all the sub-sectors were down except for air transport (+8.7%), and real estate activities (‑1.6%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in October 2023 is unchanged (after rounding), at ‑0.4%.
