This municipality has experienced contour changes since 2011:

  • 01/01/2019 – Montaigu devient commune déléguée (chef-lieu) au sein de Montaigu-Vendée (85146) (commune nouvelle).
  • 01/01/2019 – Création de la commune nouvelle de Montaigu-Vendée en lieu et place des communes de Boufféré (85027), de La Guyonnière (85107), de Montaigu (85146), de Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu (85217) et de Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay (85224) devenues déléguées.
