This municipality has experienced contour changes since 2011:

  • 01/01/2019 – Fresnay-sur-Sarthe (commune chef-lieu) est rattachée à Fresnay-sur-Sarthe (72138) (commune nouvelle).
  • 01/01/2019 – Création de la commune nouvelle de Fresnay-sur-Sarthe en lieu et place des communes de Coulombiers (72097), de Fresnay-sur-Sarthe (72138) et de Saint-Germain-sur-Sarthe (72284).
