In April 2023, personal business outlook has improved in the building craft sector Quarterly survey of the building crafts sector - April 2023
The response rate to this survey, although comparable to that of the previous quarter, remains low. The statistics published in this issue of “Informations Rapides” are therefore less accurate than those from business survey in other sectors. They are thus more likely to be revised in the next publication.
Building craftsmen’s opinion on their activity’s evolution has improved
In April 2023, building craftsmen are more optimistic than in January about both their past and expected activity: the corresponding balances have rebounded and moved above their long term averages.
Craftsmen’s opinion regarding the change in the general prospect of the sector is stable between January and April 2023. The corresponding balance has maintained its level below its average.
Building craftsmen’s opinion regarding the change in their workforce size has slightly degraded
In April 2023, craftsmen’s opinion on the evolution of their past and expected workforce has degraded slightly. The corresponding balances of opinion have decreased, now standing below their long term average.
Recruitment difficulties have maintained
In April 2023, 58% of craftsmen have reported experiencing recruiting difficulties, a stable proportion compared to January and higher than its long-term average. The share of building craftsmen declaring that they are training apprentices has dropped again: at 37%, it has come almost back to its long term average.

The balances of opinion for January 2023 have been revised, especially those on the evolution of past activity (+8 points revision) and expected activity (+2 points revision), due to the integration of late responses from companies.
