Very low seasonality in tourism employment in the French overseas departments
In 2019, tourism employment represented 10% of employment in the market sector in Martinique and 8% in Guadeloupe, more than in France (6%). This share was 6% in La Réunion and 4% in French Guiana. With favorable climate and tourist attractions throughout the year, tourism employment in overseas departments is not very seasonal, unlike in the most comparable metropolitan departments. Retail trade was the leading employer sector for jobs related to the presence of tourists (more than four out of ten tourist jobs), ahead of accommodation and food services (three out of ten). Tourism employment is mainly made up of salaried jobs, more often full-time in overseas departments than in France.
