All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In January 2023, output in services went up markedly over one month (+1.6%), after two consecutive months of modest changes.

Over one month, output was up in all sectors

In January 2023, output accelerated markedly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.3% after +0.4%). It rebounded sharply in transportation and storage (+2.4% after ‑3.2%) where all the sub-sectors were up, and more strongly in arts, entertainment and recreation (+6.8% after ‑4.6%). It was up in administrative and support services activities (+1.0% after 0.0%) and slowed down in information-communication (+0.5% after +1.3%) and real estate activities (+ 0.3% after +6.0%). Finally, it rebounded slightly in accommodation and food service activities (+0.2% after ‑0.4%).

Over a year, output was up substantially (+7.3%)

Output for the last three months (November 2022 to January 2023) was up markedly (+7.3%) compared to that of the same months a year earlier. It increased notably in professional, scientific and technical activities (+7.0%), information-communication (+9.6%), even more strongly in accommodation and food services activities (+16.4%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+19.2%) due to the low activity level a year before because of the health crisis (Omicron wave). Output also increased but less strongly in administrative and support service activities (+4.3%), transportation and storage (+3.4%) and real estate activities (+1.3%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in December 2022 has been revised upwards: initially published at ‑0.1%, it is now evaluated at 0.0% after rounding.
