In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In December 2022, output in services was almost stable over one month (‑0.1%), after a drop in November (‑0.3%).

Over one month, output was almost stable, with contrasting developments across sectors

In December 2022, output fell back sharply in transportation and storage (‑3.5% after +0.3%) where all the sub-sectors were down, and in arts, entertainment and recreation (‑4.4% after +1.4%). It fell slightly in administrative and support services activities (‑0.3% after ‑1.0%) and in accommodation and food services activities (‑0.2% after +0.3%). Conversely, it rebounded markedly in real estate activities (+5.4% after ‑5.0%) and to a lesser extent in information-communication (+1.4% after ‑0.5%). Lastly, it slowed down in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.3% after +0.7%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+6.9%)

Output in the fourth quarter of 2022 went up sharply (+6.9%) compared to that of the same quarter of 2021. This marked increase is apparent in almost all sectors: information-communication (+11.1%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+5.2%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+17.7%), accommodation and food services (+12.0%), transportation and storage (+5.0%) and administrative and support service activities (+4.1%). Output increased only slightly in real estate activities (+0.6%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in November 2022 has been revised downwards. Initially published at 0.0%, it is now evaluated at ‑0.3% after rounding to one decimal.
