In October 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) started to grow again slightly (+0.2%), following a stability in September. The in-store sales stalled for food products (0.0%), after increasing by 1.0% in September. They fell back sharply for non-food products (-4.1% after +1.9%). Concerning the sales of automotive fuel, the turnover bounced back in October (+4.6%), after two strong decreases in September (-6.9%) and August (-6.6%).

The in-store sales turnover picked up in supermarkets (+2.7% after -1.4%), while it fell back in hypermarkets (-1.6% after +0.5% in September).

Slight rebound of large-scale food retailing turnover over a month (+0.2%)

In October 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) started to grow again slightly (+0.2%), following a stability in September. The in-store sales stalled for food products (0.0%), after increasing by 1.0% in September. They fell back sharply for non-food products (-4.1% after +1.9%). Concerning the sales of automotive fuel, the turnover bounced back in October (+4.6%), after two strong decreases in September (-6.9%) and August (-6.6%).

The in-store sales turnover picked up in supermarkets (+2.7% after -1.4%), while it fell back in hypermarkets (-1.6% after +0.5% in September).

Increase in turnover over a year (+6.3%)

Resulting mainly from price rises in food products and automotive fuel, the turnover of the past three months (August to October 2022) in large-scale food retailing increased by 6.3% compared to that of the same period one year earlier. The turnover grew sharply for food products (+6.3%) and, much more moderately, for non-food products (+0.6%). It increased strongly in the sales of automotive fuel (+11.1%).

Year on year, the sales from August to October increased both in supermarkets (+4.8%) and hypermarkets (+7.5%).
