Strong rebound in tourist trips in 2021, but trips for professional purposes and travels abroad remained well below pre-crisis levels

In 2021, residents of metropolitan France returned to tourist trips, mainly to France.

Trips for personal purposes to France returned in May to the levels observed in 2019, the last year before the health crisis. This was not the case for overnight stays abroad or for business overnight stays.

Short trips remained popular, as did trips to the south-east and north-west of France and to certain european countries (Spain and Italy in particular).
