Over a year, manufacturing output went up by 2.0%

In the manufacturing industry, cumulative output over the last three months (June to August 2022) was higher than that of the same months of the previous year (+2.0%). It was also up, albeit slightly, in the whole industry (+0.4%).

Over this one-year period, output increased markedly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+7.2%), particularly in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+15.0%), which seemed less impacted than a year ago by supply difficulties for electronic components. It also went up in the “other manufacturing” industries (+1.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+3.2%). It inflated substantially in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+25.1%), because of a particularly low level a year ago due to the shutdown of several refineries. On the contrary, it plummeted in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (-7.9%), owing to a drop in electricity production. It was almost unchanged in the manufacture of food products and beverages (-0.1%).

The evolution of the July 2022 manufacturing index is left unrevised

The evolution of the manufacturing index between June and July 2022 is left unchanged, compared to the previous release, at -1.6%, as well as for the whole industry.
