In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

Output in services fell back in July 2022 (−1.9% after +1.7% in June), after five consecutive months of increase.

In July 2022, output decreased in a majority of sectors

In July 2022, output fell back in professional, scientific and technical activities (−2.7% after +3.1%) where all sub-sectors were down, real estate activities (−4.8% after +2.2%), transportation and storage (−2.2% after +1.4%), administrative and support services activities (−1.7% after +0.8%), and in the arts, entertainment and recreation (−2.9% after +4.4%). It fell again in accommodation and food service activities (−3.0% as in June). On the contrary, output continued to grow in information-communication (+1.3% after +2.4%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+12.9%)

Due in particular to the base effect of the persistent restrictions until June 2021 on a part of cultural and food service activities, the services output of the last three months (May to July 2022) was 12.9% higher than that of the same period a year earlier.

Output was up sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+38.1%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+69.4%). It increased strongly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+8.5%), transportation and storage (+11.5%, with a sharp increase in air transport: +49.5%), administrative and support services activities (+9.0%) and information-communication (+9.0%). The growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+3.1%).

Revisions

Compared to the previous release, the month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in June 2022 is left unchanged at +1.7% after rounding.
