3.3 million voters established at least one proxy for the 2022 elections
In 2022, nearly 3.3 million voters established a proxy for at least one of the rounds of the presidential or legislative elections, i.e. 6.7% of voters registered in France on a main municipal electoral list or abroad on a consular electoral list. Seven times out of ten, the request for a proxy was made online.
Women gave proxy more often than men. Young people also used this method of voting more often than the average: 10% of 18-29 year-olds gave at least one proxy and more than half of them appointed a proxy aged 50-69 to vote in their place.
For the first time in 2022, it was possible to appoint a proxy registered in a different municipality from the principal; 13% of voters who gave a proxy used this option.
