Over a year, manufacturing output went up by +2.0%
Cumulative output over the second quarter of 2022 was higher than that of the same quarter of 2021 in the manufacturing industry (+2.0%). In the whole industry, the growth was significantly more moderate (+0.2%), owing to a drop in energy production.
Over this one-year period, output increased in most industrial activities. It went up in the “other manufacturing” industries (+1.6%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.3%). In this latter activity, it increased both in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+5.6%) and in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+2.4%), the latter was less impacted than a year ago by the shortage in semiconductors and other inputs. Output increased also in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.0%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.1%). It climbed sharply in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+26.1%), because of a particularly low level a year ago due to the shutdown of several refineries. Conversely, output decreased markedly in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (–8.9%).
The evolution of the May 2022 manufacturing index is revised upwards
The evolution of the manufacturing index between April and May 2022 is revised upwards by 0.2 points, after rounding, at +1.0% instead of +0.8%. The evolution of the index for the whole industry is also revised upwards by 0.2 points, after rounding, at +0.2% instead of 0.0%.
