In June 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) increased by 1.0%, as in May. The in-store sales fell back for both food products (−1.3% after +0.8%), and non-food products (−1.3% after −0.3%). In contrast, the turnover sped up sharply in the sales of automotive fuel (+10.3% after +2.0%), in the context of rising energy prices.
The in-store sales turnover kept increasing both in supermarkets (+1.0% after +1.2%) and hypermarkets (+2.4% after a virtual stability in May).
In June 2022, a further growth of large-scale food retailing turnover
In June 2022, the total turnover in large-scale food retailing (including sales not in stores) increased by 1.0%, as in May. The in-store sales fell back for both food products (−1.3% after +0.8%), and non-food products (−1.3% after −0.3%). In contrast, the turnover sped up sharply in the sales of automotive fuel (+10.3% after +2.0%), in the context of rising energy prices.
The in-store sales turnover kept increasing both in supermarkets (+1.0% after +1.2%) and hypermarkets (+2.4% after a virtual stability in May).
Increase in turnover over a year (+6.0%)
The turnover of the second quarter of 2022 in large-scale food retailing increased (+6.0%) when compared with that of the second quarter of 2021. Admittedly, the turnover decreased both in food products (−1.1%) and non-food products (−0.7%). But it grew very strongly in the sales of automotive fuel (+54.3%), due to the rise in their prices, coupled with a base effect due to the third national lockdown implemented on April 3, 2021.
Year on year, the sales over the second quarter of 2022 increased both in supermarkets (+5.2%) and hypermarkets (+7.7%).
