Sharp rise of cereal prices over one month and year on year
In May 2022, cereal prices continued to go up sharply (+3.5% over one month after +2.9% in April). This persistent rise owes much to the soaring soft wheat prices (+3.6% after +4.2%) and maize prices (+4.0% after –2.3%) in the context of the war in Ukraine and international sanctions against Russia. The rise in cereal prices remained very sharp year on year (+74.5% after +75.5%).
Oilseed prices fell sharply in May 2022 (–14.4% over one month after +8.4%). Rapeseed prices also dropped sharply (–17.2% after +10.8%) in the context of change in the harvest year, while sunflower prices (–4.0% after –0.9%) continued to fall and soybean prices (+4.0% after –1.1%) recovered. Year on year, oilseed prices slowed down significantly, but continued to rise sharply (+57.0% after +96.4%).

More about French agricultural price indices
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. As a result their variations can be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPPIAP) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonally adjusted.
The methodology of IPPAP is available on the Insee web site: https://www.insee.fr/en/metadonnees/source/indicateur/p1657/description
