48.7 million voters registered for the 2022 presidential election

In March 2022, 48.8 million people were registered on the French electoral lists (except for New Caledonia), including 1.4 million living abroad and registered on a consular list. 95% of French people of voting age were registered on a list. With the voters of New Caledonia but without the nationals of other European Union member states, who cannot vote in the presidential election, the electorate for the presidential election was 48.7 million.

The number of people on the lists increased by 856,000 between May 2021 and March 2022. During this period, nearly 4 million French people voluntarily registered on the electoral roll, most often following a move to a new location. One out of two of them registered online. There were also more automatic registrations of young people aged 18 than deaths.
