Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.8% in December 2021, as in the previous month, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. The prices of manufactured goods and food should accelerate sharply. The prices of tobacco should be stable, as in November, and those of energy and services should slow down.

Over one month, consumer prices should rise by 0.2%, after +0.4% in November. The prices of energy should fall back in the wake of those of petroleum products. Those of manufactured goods should be stable after an increase the previous month. The prices of services and food should accelerate.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 3.4%, as in November. Over one month, it should increase by 0.2%, after +0.4% in the previous month.

In December, the missing prices due to a lack of collection or an impossibility to purchase the products were imputed in compliance with Eurostat guidelines. The imputation rate should be 1%.

Definition

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is designed for comparison of consumer price inflation between Members States of the European Union. It is computed for all households in France except Mayotte. The main difference between HICP and CPI is about the health costs: HICP is based on net prices of social security reimbursements and CPI is based on gross prices.
