One in five persons suffered from income poverty or material and social deprivation
Poverty is a multidimensional concept: a lack of income is only part of the problem,
but non-monetary indicators based on living conditions should complete this aspect.
13.1% of the metropolitan France population suffered from material and social deprivation,
21.0% were at risk of income poverty or material and social deprivation and 5.7% combine
monetary and social deprivation.
Households with an unemployed reference person and single-parent families are particularly
exposed to the risk of poverty: respectively 50.8% and 29.2% were poor in the sense
of material and social deprivation; 33.3% and 14.1% combine this deprivation with
monetary poverty.
