In 2018, the average hourly wage varies by a factor of two between salaried executives
and clerical, sales and services employees
In 2018, in France excluding Mayotte, in private and public companies with 10 or more
employees, the average gross hourly wage was 18.1 euros, i.e. 8.2 euros more than
the minimum wage. Hourly pay varies greatly with socio-professional category: salaried
executives earn an average
of 29.2 euros per hour compared to 13.5 euros for clerical, sales and services employees.
Disparities also exist according to diploma and, to a lesser extent, according to
age, professional experience, gender and sector of activity.
Within the European Union of 27 countries, the median gross hourly wage varies in
a ratio of 1 to11, from 1 to 4 when price level differences are taken into account;
France is in the 9ᵉ position of the highest median wages.
