Warning

These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 13 July 2021.

Moreover, the health crisis due to the Covid-19 impacts the quality of the data: price collection on the field has been progressively adjourned since the end of March 2021 with the lockdown of the different territories until the end of May 2021; moreover, certain products were unavailable for sale.

Additional information is available in “For further information”.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 1.5% in June 2021, after +1.4% in the previous month, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This increase in inflation should result from the rebound of manufactured good prices. The tobacco prices should rise at the same rate as in the last month. The decrease in food prices should maintain at the same level as in May. The prices of services and those of energy should slow down.

Over one month, consumer prices should rise by 0.2% after +0.3% in May.

The prices of services should slow down slightly and those of food should fall back. The tobacco prices should be stable. The prices of manufactured goods should accelerate in link with those of clothing and footwear. The prices of energy should be more dynamic than in the previous month.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 1.9% after +1.8% in May. Over one month, it should increase by 0.2% after +0.3% in the previous month.

For further information

The price collection carried out by collectors on the field was adjourned with the beginning of lockdown, from the 16th March to the 15th June 2020, in November and December 2020 and progressively since the end of March 2021 until the end of May 2021. Despite the introduction of new collection methods during these periods (price collection online, telephone collection, scanner data), the quality of the indices was affected. Therefore, the level of the indices, the month-on-month rate and particularly the year-on-year rate should be considered cautiously. The missing prices due to a lack of collection or an impossibility to purchase the products were imputed in compliance with Eurostat guidelines. The imputation rate should be 5%.

Definition

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is designed for comparison of consumer price inflation between Members States of the European Union. It is computed for all households in France except Mayotte.
