Drop in production smoothed by rental of housing and digital or technical activities

The momentum of market services was stopped in 2020 because of the COVID-19 epidemic, their value added decreased by 6.7% in volume, slightly less than that the value added of transport, manufacturing and construction. Production fell in services directly in contact with the public (restaurant services, market cultural and recreational activities, personal services) and in those affected by traffic restrictions (accommodation services).

Housing rental cushions the shock. Activity was also more resilient in computer and engineering activities; it remained dynamic in information services and telecommunications, whose demand was strengthened by the confinements.

The investment in market services declined slightly (-0.6%), contrary to their final consumption, which was very depressed (-8.7%). The balance of foreign trade in services decreased, but it remained positive. Employment fell less than value added (-2.5%).
