Producer prices in French industry: +0.9%
The industrial producer prices kept rising in March 2021 (+0.9%, as in the previous month), mainly due to persistent increases in raw material prices. Prices for the home market increased by 1.0% while those for the foreign markets grew by 0.9%. Year on year, the industrial producer prices surged: +4.0% (after +1.7% in the previous month).

The industrial producer prices for the home market increased by 1.0% in March 2021, after +0.9% in the previous month. They were driven up by the prices of manufactured products (+0.9% after +1.0%) and, to a lesser extent, by those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Year on year, the industrial producer prices for the home market sped up sharply in March 2021 (+4.5% after +1.9%).
Slight rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In March 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water sped up slightly (+0.9% after +0.4%). The prices of sorted materials recovery services and secondary raw materials bounced back sharply (+8.7% after –0.2%), following increases in metal and paper prices. In addition, electricity production and trade prices also rose slightly (+0.9% after +0.2%), below-normal temperatures boosting demand. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water sped up again in March 2021 (+7.1% after +6.1% in February 2021 and +4.4% in January 2021).
Dynamism in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” went up by 0.7% in March 2021, after +0.9%. Due to rises in raw material prices, the prices of chemicals and chemical products kept speeding up (+3.9% after +3.4%), while those of basic metals slowed down (+1.5% after +4.1%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” grew by 2.5% in March 2021 (after +1.3%).
Deceleration in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products rose by 6.4% in March 2021 over a month (after +11.6%). Year on year, they bounced back very strongly (+53.0% after –6.5%).

Rise in food and beverage prices
In March 2021, the food and beverage prices rose by 0.8% over a month (after +0.2%), as over a year, driven up by those of processed and preserved meat (+2.4% after –0.4%) and those of oils and fats (+6.1% after +4.1%).
Rise in the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
In March 2021, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery increased by 0.5% over a month (after +0.3%), driven up by those of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+0.6% after +0.4%). Year on year, they rose by 1.0% (after +0.2%).
Stability in transport equipment prices
In March 2021, the prices of transport equipment remained stable over a month and grew by 2.4% over a year (as in the previous month).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.9%
In March 2021, the export producer prices for the whole industry kept rising by 0.9%, driven up by those of manufactured products (+1.0% after +0.8%). Year on year they sped up sharply (+3.1% after +0.9%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” remained on an upward trend (+1.2% after +1.3%), driven up by those of chemicals and chemical products (+2.1% after +3.0%) and those of basic metals (+3.4% after +2.6%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 3.6% in March 2021 (after +2.0% in the previous month).
The prices of transport equipment rose by 0.5% over a month (after +0.2%) and fell by 0.4% over a year (after –1.9%).
The prices of refined petroleum products sped up slightly over a month (+6.3% after +4.2%) and bounced back strongly over a year (+40.7% after –4.8%).
Those of food products and beverages remained dynamic over a month (+0.9% after +1.0%), driven up by those of distilled alcoholic beverages (+3.3% after +5.9%) and those of preserved meat and meat products (+2.8% after +0.4%). Year on year, they remained nevertheless down (–1.1% after –1.9%).
At last, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery kept rising by 0.4%, driven up mainly by machinery and equipment n.e.c. prices (+0.4% after +0.5%). Year on year, they turned up (+0.3% after –0.2%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.7%
In March 2021, the import prices of industrial products were still on the rise (+0.7% after +1.7%), in line with increases in raw material prices. They sped up sharply over a year (+5.5% after +1.2%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” kept on rising by 1.2% (after +1.1%), driven up by those of chemicals and chemical products (+4.1% after +3.9%) and those of basic metals (+2.0% after +3.3%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” reached their highest increase since October 2011: +3.7% (after +2.0%).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products slowed down over a month (+4.0% after +12.5%) and bounced back sharply over a year (+35.2% after –14.2%).
Those of transport equipment grew by 0.7% over a month (after +0.1%) and by 1.4% over a year (after +0.5%).
At last, the prices of food products, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.8% over a month (after +0.7%), driven up by those of dairy and cheese products (+3.4% after +1.2%) and those of processed and preserved meat (+2.5% after –0.1%). Year on year, they sped up sharply (+1.8% after +0.7%).

The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
