In Q4 2020, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) rose by 0.2% after being almost stable in the previous quarter (–0.1%). Prices were practically unchanged in plumbing, heat and air−conditioning installation, in plastering, in floor and wall covering, in roofing and in other specialised construction activities. Prices rose slightly in joinery installation (+0.2% after +0.1%) and in painting and glazing (+0.3% after +0.0%). Prices bounced back in other specialised construction activities (+0.2% after –0.3%) and in electical installation (+0.4% after –0.1%).
Over the quarter, prices slightly rose both in the non-residential sector and in the residential sector (+0.2%).
Over one year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 0.8% in Q4 2020 (as in the third quarter). The increase was a little more pronounced in the residential sector (+0.9%) than in the non-residential sector (+0.7%).
Prices moderated slightly in plastering (+4.7% after +5.3%) and in plumbing, heat and air−conditioning installation (+0.9% after +1.1%). They were almost steady in roofing (+0.1% after +0.4%) and in other specialised construction activities (+0.0% after –0.3%).
Prices in joinery installation (+1.0% after +1.1%) and in painting and glazing (+0.9% after +1.0%) increased at roughly the same pace as in the previous quarter. Prices sped up in other installation work (+0.7% after +0.3%) and in electrical installation (+0.8% after +0.5%). Conversely, they fell back in floor and wall covering (–0.3% after +0.2%).
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA price index between the second quarter and the third quarter of 2020 was unchanged at –0.1%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of pricesnet of taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and nonresidential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
