In October 2020, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets were down slightly by 0.1% over a month, after –0.5% in September.

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices of frequently purchased goods were stable as in the previous month.

Considering all kinds of stores, they fell by 0.1% over a month, after –0,3% in September.

Year on year, prices in hyper and supermarkets decreased slightly

Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets have decreased for the first time since March 2017: –0,1% in October, after +0.1% in September. In large and predominantly food stores, the prices were stable year on year after +0.2% in September.

In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods rose by 0.8% year on year, as in September.

Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods continued to slow down year on year: +0.2% in October, after +0.4% in September and +1.1% in March.

Year on year, food prices in hyper and supermarkets slowed down for the sixth consecutive month

The prices of food (excluding fresh produces) sold in hyper and supermarkets dropped in October: –0.2% over a month after –0.4% in September. Year on year, their prices slowed down for the sixth consecutive month: +0.2% in October, after +0.4% in September and +1.7% in April.

This fall in prices over a month resulted from lower prices in meat, beverages and other food products.

The prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets fell by 0.3% in October, after –0.4% in September. Year on year, they slowed down: +1.4% in October, after +1.8% in September.

The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets dropped in October (–0.2%), after –0.4% in September. Year on year, the rise in the prices of these products decreased: +0.1% in October, after +0.3% in September.

The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) fell in October (–0.1%), after –0.4% in September. Year on year, the decline has become more pronounced: –0.4% in October, after –0.1% the previous month.

Year on year, the fall in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets slowed down

In October, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets rebounded: +0.2% over a month, after –1.1% in September. Year on year, the decline in the prices of these products was less pronounced: –1.3% in October, after –1.6% the previous month.
