Managers and higher intellectual professionals: more and more women
Engineers, doctors, human resources managers, high school teachers, pharmacists, lawyers, journalists, artists, etc. In 2019, 19% of people in employment were managers or higher intellectual professionals. In nearly forty years, their share in the total employment has more than doubled (8% in 1982).
While men were still the majority among managers or higher intellectual professionals, the proportion of women has doubled since 1982, from 21% to 42%. Compared to all workers, managers and higher intellectual professionals were older and had a higher level of education. They were more likely to have a permanent contract or to be self-employed. They were less likely to work part-time, but more likely to work from home.
