graphiqueBreakdown of energy
Manufactured good consumption increased slightly (+0.3%), mainly due to textile-clothing spending (+1.3%) and manufactured good purchases (+0.3%). On the other hand, other engineered good spending decreased (–0.3%).
Durables: slow down
In July, durable good spending slowed down (+0.3% after +41.2%). In particular, the consumption of transport equipment slowed down (+7.0% after +47.3%), especially new car and demonstration vehicle purchases. In addition, after increasing strongly two months in a row in May and June, housing equipment spending decreased quite sharply (–9.9%), especially because of the decrease in the consumption of furnitures and household appliances.
Textile-clothing: increase
Textile-clothing spending increased again (+1.3%), mainly due to the purchases of clothes and shoes.
Other engineered goods: decrease
In July, the consumption of "other manufactured goods" decreased slightly (–0.3%), after increasing markedly for two months. The consumption of most of the products was decreasing.

Scope and definition - Consumption expenditure on goods is compliant with the national-accounts definition (NAF Rev. 2). In 2010, they accounted for half of total households’ consumption expenditure. They are divided into three main items:
Food: products of agriculture, forestry and fishing (AZ), food, drinks and tobacco (C1)
Energy: mining products, as well as water, gas, electricity and air conditioning, sanitation and waste management (DE), and refined and coked products (C2).
Engineered goods: computers, electronic, electrical and optical goods (C3), transport equipment (C4), textiles and clothing, products made of leather, wood, paper, metals, plastic, rubber, chemicals, minerals, furniture, hardware, drugs (C5). Within this heading are distinguished “durable” goods which include transport equipment, household durables (furniture, household appliances, etc.) and other durable goods (jewelry, watches, glasses, medical devices, etc.).
The manufactured goods correspond to all the products C1, C2, C3, C4, C5.
