In January 2020, the turnover recovered in the manufacturing industry (+0.7%) after the decrease in December (−0.9%). It also picked up in industry as a whole (+0.5% after −0.6%).
Export turnover recovered in January (+0.6% after −1.7%).

Decrease over the last three months (−1.0%)
Over the last three months (November to January), the turnover declined in the manufacturing industry (−1.0%) as in industry as a whole (−0.4%), compared to the previous three months. Within manufacturing, the turnover fell strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (−3.7%). It also went down in “other manufacturing” (−1.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.6%). By contrast, it increased in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.6%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.0%).

Stability compared to the previous year
The turnover over the last three months was stable compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry but rose moderatly in industry as a whole (+0.4%). Over the same period, the turnover went up sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.6%). It also rose in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+2.3%) and in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+2.4%). It was virtually stable in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.1%). It declined in “other manufacturing” (−1.3%) and fell sharply in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−9.7%).

In January, rebound in “other manufacturing” (+1.6%)
In January, the turnover in “other manufacturing” rebounded (+1.6% after −1.3% in December). It recovered in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+3.0% after −4.2%), as in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (+2.2% after −1.1%) and the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (+2.3% after −2.9%). The turnover recovered sharply in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+4.0% after −2.2%), in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (+0.9% after −3.2%). It increased again in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+0.9% after +1.1%). By contrast, it fell back in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (−2.3% after +7.5%).
Export sales decreased again in “other manufacturing” in January (−0.9% after −0.8%).
Rise in food products and beverages (+1.0%)
The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages rose in January (+1.0% after +0.1% ). Export sales increased sharply (+2.9% after −0.1% in December).
Increase in machinery and equipment goods (+0.6%)
The turnover in machinery and equipment goods increased in January (+0.6%) after a stability in December. It grew again in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+1.9% after +2.4%) and edged up in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+0.4% after −2.3%) while it folded in the manufacture of electrical equipment (−1.0% after +1.3%).
Exports sales in machinery and equipment goods bounced back strongly in January (+2.5% after −3.1%).
Decrease in coke and refined petroleum products (−2.0%)
The turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products fell back in January (−2.0% after +1.8%).
Further decline in transport equipment (−1.2%)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment declined again in January (−1.2% after −2.4%). It decreased again in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−1.4% after −5.7%) and also declined in the manufacture of motor vehicles (−0.9% after +2.0%).
Export sales of transport equipment recovered (+1.2% after −4.3% in December).
