In December 2019, output decreased in the manufacturing industry (−2.6%, after −0.4%), as well as in the whole industry (−2.8%, after 0.0%).
All series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

It declined in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−2.1%), in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−1.5%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.9%). Conversely, output increased slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.2%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.4%).

Over a year, manufacturing output decreased (−0.7%)
In the manufacturing industry, output of the last quarter was lower than the same quarter of 2018 (−0.7%), as well as in the whole industry (−0.8%).
Over a year, output slumped in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−28.3%). It decreased also in the manufacture of transport equipment (−3.3%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−2.0%) and in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−1.0%). In contrast, output increased slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.6%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.3%).

In December, output continued to decline in “other manufacturing” (−2.4% after −1.5%)
Output declined sharply in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (−4.0% after +2.4%), in chemicals (−4.6% after −0.7%), in manufacturing of rubber and plastics products (−2.4% after −0.4%) and in the manufacture of wood and paper products (−4.3% after +0.3%). Output also decreased in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (−1.3% after −2.2%) and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−4.2% after +2.6%). Conversely it increased in pharmaceuticals (+3.8% after −12.2%).
Output decreased in machinery and equipment goods (−5.2% after +0.3%)
Output slipped back markedly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−8.3% after +6.5%). It kept decreasing in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−2.9% after −3.2%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (−3.8% after −3.7%).
Output slipped back in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−4.0% after +2.2%)
Output decreased in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (−4.4% after +2.5%).
Output dropped in the manufacture of transport equipment (−3.5% after +2.3%)
Output decreased markedly in the manufacture of “other transport equipment” (−4.2% after +3.9%) and in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (−2.6% after +0.1%).
Output dipped in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.6% after +0.6%)
In particular, output decreased in manufacture of other food products and in manufacture of dairy products.
Output rose in refined petroleum products (+1.2% after +2.5%)
