In October 2019, the sales volume in overall trade stabilized after a decrease in September (−0.6%). It rose slightly in wholesale trade (+0.3%) after a stability in September. It was virtually stable in retail trade (+0.1% after −1.7%) and decreased in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.8% just as September).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In October 2019, the sales volume in overall trade stabilized after a decrease in September (−0.6%). It rose slightly in wholesale trade (+0.3%) after a stability in September. It was virtually stable in retail trade (+0.1% after −1.7%) and decreased in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.8% just as September).
The sales volume in overall trade increased over the last three months
Over the last three months (August to October 2019), the sales volume in overall trade rose by 1.0% compared to the previous three months. It increased in all sectors: it grew by 0.9% in wholesale trade, by 1.3% in retail trade and by 1.2% in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. Among retail trade, it rose in specialised stores (+1.4%), in non-specialised stores (+0.8%) and in retail trade not in stores (+2.0%).

The sales volume rose by 3.2% over a year
The sales volume in overall trade grew by 3.2% over a year. It rose in wholesale trade (+3.2%), in retail trade (+2.7%) and in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+4.1%). Among retail trade, it grew in specialised stores (+3.7%), in retail trade not in stores (+7.9%), and was virtually stable in non-specialised stores (+0.1%).

In October, slight increase in wholesale trade
In October 2019, the sales volume in wholesale trade rose by 0.3% after a stability in September. It recovered for wholesaler on a fee or contract basis (+2.0% after −1.0%), accelerated in information and communication equipment (+2.7% after +0.9%) and kept rising in household goods (+0.5% after +0.7%). By contrast, it fell back in other specialised wholesale (−1.4% after +1.0%) and kept decreasing in food, beverages and tobacco (−0.3% after −0.3%).
In October, virtual stability in retail trade
In October 2019, the sales volume in retail trade was virtually stable (+0.1% after −1.7% in September). It recovered slightly in specialised stores (+0.4% after −1.1%), was virtually stable in non-specialised stores (+0.1% after −2.2%) and kept decreasing in retail trade not in stores (−2.1% after −3.2%). Among specialised stores, the sales volume recovered in automotive fuel (+1.3% after −1.9%), in food, beverages and tobacco (+0.9% after −0.7%) and in other household equipment (+0.4% after −1.0%).
According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should increase in November (+1.1%). It should grow by 2.1% year on year.
In October, further decrease in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In October 2019, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles fell again (−0.8% after −0.8% in September). It decreased in all sectors: it kept falling in motor vehicles (−0.8% after −0.5%), in motor vehicle parts and accessories (−1.1% after −0.1%) and in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (−0.3% after −4.7%).
