In October 2019, the turnover decreased again in the manufacturing industry (−0.5% after −0.8% in September). It also fell again in industry as a whole (−0.6% after −0.6%).
Export turnover increased in October (+1.7% after being stable in September).

Virtual stability over the last three months (−0.1%)
Over the last three months (August to October), the turnover was virtually stable both in the manufacturing industry (−0.1%) and in industry as a whole (−0.1%), compared to the previous three months. Within manufacturing, the turnover fell strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−5.3%) and more moderately in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.6%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.6%). It was stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages and increased in “other manufacturing” (+0.7%).

Increase compared to the previous year (+1.5%)
The turnover over the last three months grew by 1.5% compared to the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry. It also increased in industry as a whole (+1.1%). Within manufacturing, the turnover rose strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+8.1%). It also grew in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+2.5%), in “other manufacturing” (+0.9%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.7%). By contrast, it went down slightly in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (−0.6%) and strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−16.0%).

In October, further decline in transport equipment (−1.5%)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment declined again in October 2019 (−1.5% after −3.4% in September). It decreased both in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−1.9% after −6.2%) and in the manufacture of motor vehicles (−1.0% after +0.6%).
Export sales of transport equipment recovered strongly (+7.6% after −2.4% in September).
Further fall in coke and refined petroleum products (−3.8%)
The turnover in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products fell again in October (−3.8% after −4.5% in September).
Slight fall in food products and beverages (−0.3%)
The turnover in the manufacture of food products and beverages edged down in October (−0.3% after +0.3% in September). Export sales also fell back (−1.4% after +0.8%).
Stability in “other manufacturing”
The turnover in “other manufacturing” was stable in October (after +0.4% in September). It grew again in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+1.9% after +11.1%) and recovered in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+1.8% after −3.1%) and in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+0.4% after −0.8%). By contrast, it edged down in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (−0.2% after +0.1%) and decreased again in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (−0.8% after −0.5%) and in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (−0.4% after −1.1%). It also fell in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non−metallic mineral products (−0.6% after +0.8%).
Exports sales in “other manufacturing” grew again in October (+0.7% after +1.1%).
Slight recovery in machinery and equipment goods (+0.3%)
In October, the turnover in machinery and equipment goods recovered slightly (+0.3% after −1.8% in September). It bounced back in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+1.2% after −4.5%) and rose again in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+1.5% after +0.2%) whereas it fell again in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−1.0% after −0.8%).
Export sales decreased again in machinery and equipment goods in October (−0.8% after −0.1%).
