In October 2019, output increased in the manufacturing industry (+0.5%, after +0.8%), as well as in the whole industry (+0.4%, after +0.4%).
All series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

- Output was virtually stable in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−0.1% after −1.4%)

Over the last three months, output decreased in manufacturing industry (−0.8%), and more strongly in the whole industry (−1.2%).
Over the last three months, output slumped in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−10.9%). It declined markedly in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−3.3%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.9%) and more moderately in “other manufacturing” (−0.3%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.8%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.5%).

Over a year, manufacturing output decreased slightly (−0.3%)
In the manufacturing industry, output of the last three months was lower than the same months of 2018 (−0.3%), as well as in the whole industry (−0.4%).
Over a year, output slumped strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−21.1%). It dipped in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−1.3%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.1%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.6%) and it was virtually stable in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.1%). Conversely, output increased slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.5%).

In October, output kept growing in “other manufacturing” (+1.7% after +0.4%)
Output accelerated in pharmaceuticals (+8.3% after +2.5%). It bounced back in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+2.8% after −0.2%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+1.0% after −1.4%), in the manufacture of wood and paper products (+2.5% after −1.2%) and in manufacturing of rubber and plastics products (+0.5% after −1.3%). Output increased in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+0.8% after +4.0%). Conversely, output slipped back in chemicals (−2.9% after +3.6%).
Output dropped in petroleum and refined products (−16.8% after −12.6%)
In October, output dropped again in petroleum and refined products mainly due to a refinery shutdown for maintenance.
Output slipped back in machinery and equipment goods (−1.0% after +3.9%)
Output went down markedly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−5.2% after +2.3%). It kept growing in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+2.1% after +6.3%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+0.6% after +2.0%).
Output declined again in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.9% after −0.3%)
Output diminished in the manufacture of “other transport equipment” (−3.9% after +2.1%). Conversely, it bounced back in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+3.4% after −3.4%).
Output was virtually stable in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−0.1% after −1.4%)
The slight decline in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (−0.2% after −1.8%) was partially offset by the rise in mining and quarrying (+2.2% after +0.1%).
Output was virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.1% after +1.2%)
Output increased in the processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables whereas it declined in the other branches.
