In February 2019, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores sharply accelerated over a month (+0.4%), after a little increase in January (+0.1%).
Excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices increased also by 0.4% after a stability in January.
Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods grew more than in the previous month: +0.4% after +0.1%.
Year on year, prices accelerated in hyper and supermarkets as in the other kinds of stores
Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets grew in February (+1.5% year on year after +1.3% in January) for the fourth consecutive month. The same is true in large and predominantly food stores (+1.5% year on year after +1.2%).
In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods rose againand more markedly than in large distributors: +2.5% year on year in February after +2.2%. It has been the largest increase since December 2012
Considering all types of stores, the increase in the prices of frequently purchased goods accelerated again by 1.7% year on year after +1.4%. This rise has been the largest since October 2012.

Sharp acceleration in food prices in hyper and supermarkets
In February, at the same time as the “Agriculture and Food” law came into force, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets rose more sharplythan in the previous month: +0.5% after +0.1%. Year on year, theycontinued to gather pace: +1.9% after +1.5%.
Their increaseover a month came from a marked acceleration in meat and beverages prices and, to a lesser extent, in those of other food products.
After a little rise in December 2018 and January 2019 (+0.1%), the prices of meat sold in hyper and supermarkets sharply rose in February (+0.6%). Year on year, they grew more than in January: +1.8% in February after +1.6% in the previous month.
The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets strongly accelerated: +0.7%in February after a stability in January. Year on year, they were sharply more dynamic than in the previous month: +2.4% after +1.7%.
The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) rose by 0.3% after +0.2% in the three previous months. Year on year, theirincrease was a little more pronounced than in January (+1.7% after +1.4%).
Slight decrease in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
In February, over a month as year on year, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets slightly edged down (−0,1%) after a stability in the previous month.
