In December 2018, output bounced back in the manufacturing industry (+1.0% after −1.5% in November) as well as in the whole industry (+0.8% after −1.5%).
All series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

- Over a year, manufacturing output diminished (−1.5%)
- In December, output bounced back in “other manufacturing” (+1.3 % after −2.1%)
- Output accelerated in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.6% after −1.5%)
- Output increased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.9 % after −0.5%)
- Output bounced back in petroleum and refined products (+5.7 % after −10.2%)
- Output was virtually stable in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (after −1.0%)
- Output continued to shrink in machinery and equipment goods (−2.3% after −2.2%)

Manufacturing output went down over the last quarter (−0.4%), as well as in the whole industry (−0.5%).
Over the last quarter, output decreased in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−0.8%), in “other manufacturing” (−0.2%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−0.9%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (−0.5%) and more markedly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−6.6%). Conversely, it was virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.1%).

Over a year, manufacturing output diminished (−1.5%)
Manufacturing output of the last quarter diminished compared to the same quarter of 2017 (−1.5%), as well as in the whole industry (−1.4%).
Over a year, output also decreased sharply in “other manufacturing” (−1.9%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.4%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.4%), in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−0.9%) and more markedly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−7.1%). On the contrary, it increased slightly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.4%).

In December, output bounced back in “other manufacturing” (+1.3 % after −2.1%)
Output bounced back markedly in most branches: in pharmaceuticals (+11.7% after −4.1%), in chemicals (+3.7% after −3.7%), in rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (+2.4% after −2.4%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+1.0% after −2.4%), in textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+1.0% after −1.8%) and in wood, paper and printing industries (+0.3% after −1.4%). On the contrary, it went down in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (−5.4% after −0.7%).
Output accelerated in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.6% after −1.5%)
Output grew again in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+2.6% after +5.3%). It bounced back in that of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+2.6% after −3.3%).
Output increased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.9 % after −0.5%)
Output bounced back in the sector, sustained by the manufacture of beverages.
Output bounced back in petroleum and refined products (+5.7 % after −10.2%)
Output bounced back in petroleum and refined products after going back to a normal activity without any particular incident.
Output was virtually stable in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (after −1.0%)
Output bounced back in mining and quarring (+3.7% after –3.2%). It was virtually stable in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditionning supply (after –0.7%).
Output continued to shrink in machinery and equipment goods (−2.3% after −2.2%)
Output shrank again in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (–3.6% after −3.1%) and in that of electrical equipment (–4.1% after –0.5%). It was virtually stable in the manufactureof computer, electronic and optical products (after –2.2%).
