In September 2018, after a sharp acceleration in August, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores fell back by 0.1% over a month. It has been the first decrease since January 2018.
In September 2018, after a sharp acceleration in August, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores fell back by 0.1% over a month. It has been the first decrease since January 2018.
Excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices were stable in September while they had risen slightly each month since February 2017.
Considering all kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods fell back (−0.1%) after a 0.4% rise in the previous month.
Year on year, the prices in hyper and supermarkets rose at the same pace as in August
Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets grew by 0.8% in September, as in the previous month. The same is true in large and predominantly food stores (+0.8% year on year).
In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods remained more dynamic than in large distributors: in September they rose by 2.0% year on year, as in August.
Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 1.1% year on year for the second consecutive month.

Stability in food prices in hyper and supermarkets
In September 2018, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable over a month after a sharp rise in August (+0.4%). Year on year, they increased a little more than in the previous month: +1.1% after +1.0%.
The stability over a month resulted from a sharp downturn in meat prices offset by a slight increase in beverages prices whereas those of other food products were stable.
After a marked acceleration in August, meat prices fell back in September (−0.3%). Year on year, they grew a little more than in August: +1.1% after +1.0%.
The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets decelerated in September after a relatively sharp increase in August: +0.1% after +0.6%. Year on year, they were more dynamic than in the previous month: +1.3 after +1.1%.
The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) were stable in September after a 0.3% rise in August. Year on year, the prices of these products increased at the same pace as in the previous month (+1.0%).
Downturn in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
In September, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets fell back (−0.3% after +0.2% in August). Year on year, the prices of these products decreased by 0.5%, as in the previous month.
