Cement production in France: a highly concentrated industry

In 2016, cement production in France, concentrated in a small number of companies, amounts to 2.08 billion euros. The proximity of limestone quarries, necessary for production, determines the location of the establishments.

France is the second largest European producer of cements, just behind Germany, and the leading European producer of Portland cements, which account for 76% of French production. Imports and exports of this heavy-weight product occur mainly with neighbouring countries.
