2018- n° 242In Q2 2018, producer costs for construction increased again (+0.9%) Costs of production indices in construction - second quarter 2018
In Q2 2018, producer costs for construction increased again (+0.9% after +0.8% in the previous quarter). They increased in all sub-sectors: in civil engineering (+1.8% after +1.3%), in building construction as well as in specialised construction works (+0.7% as in the previous quarter). Over a year, these costs accelerated (+2.9% after +2.3% in Q1 2018), particularly in civil engineering (+4.9% after +2.7%) and to a lesser extent in specialised construction works (+2.6% after +2.3%) and in building construction (+2.6% after +2.4%).

Materials cost increased
In Q2 2018, the cost of materials increased in the three sectors: +0.6% in building construction (after +1.3%) and in specialised works for civil engineering (after +1.2%). The growth was stronger (+3.4% after +1.4%) in civil engineering due to the sharp rise in bitumen prices.
Over a year, materials cost accelerated in civil engineering (+7.7% after +3.3%) and remained dynamic in building construction (+3.0% after +3.2%).
Energy cost rose
In Q2 2018, the cost of energy remained dynamic in building construction (+4.4% after +9.0%) and in public works (+3.5% after +9.1%) due to a continuous growth in prices of fuel oil and gas oil.
Over a year, the rise in the cost of energy was really marked (+18.4% after +8.9% in public works and +18.5% after +9.3% in building construction).

graphiqueGraph1 – Production costs in construction
Equipment cost decreased in building construction and slightly increased in public works
In Q2 2018, equipment cost decreased in building construction (−1.5% after +0.2%) and on a year-on-year basis (−1.4% after −0.2%). In public works, it slightly increased by 0.2% (after +0.3% in Q1 2018). Over a year it rose (+0.2% after a stability).
Production costs in construction were not revised in Q1 2018
In Q1 2018, the variation in producer costs in construction remained at the same rate (+0.8%).
