Manufacturing industry in 2017 Job creation despite subdued growth
In 2017, the added value of the manufacturing industry increased by 1.7%. Although swifter than in 2016, this pace is lower than that of growth in gross domestic product.
The most dynamic manufacturing sectors were computers, electronics and optical products and transport equipment. In contrast, the situation is deteriorating for the agri-food industry, marked by low wine production and the butter shortage. The trade deficit is significantly widening, due to the rise in oil prices and the appreciation of the euro. In this context, however, the manufacturing industry is creating jobs, for the first time since 2000.
