In 2017, out of companies with 10 or more people, four out of ten are present on social media: this is twice as much as in 2013. As to microblogging sites, such as Twitter, and sites dedicated to sharing multimedia content, such as YouTube, they are also being increasingly used by companies, particularly to develop their image and collect opinions from their customers.

The use of social media is complementary to company web sites, whose content has become much richer in four years: three-quarters of web sites now show a catalogue of goods or services, compared with less than half in 2013.

More and more often, these company visibility locales on the web are used for online recruitment: in 2017, this was the case with half of the companies registered on social media, compared with just over one-third in 2013.

Lastly, on the Internet, companies can register in marketplaces, where they reach customers other than those visiting their websites. Marketplaces are a showcase for small companies and foster electronic sales in certain sectors. More than two-thirds of the hotel-restaurant industry companies that have sold on the Internet state that they have done so in particular via booking or ordering marketplaces.
