In May 2018, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores accelerated slightly over a month: +0.2% after +0.1% in the previous three months.
In May 2018, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores accelerated slightly over a month: +0.2% after +0.1% in the previous three months.
Excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices also rose a little more strongly than in April (+0.2% after +0.1%).
Considering all the kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 0.2%.
Year on year, the prices in hyper and supermarkets rose at the same pace as in April
Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets increased by 0.8% for the third consecutive month. In large and predominantly food stores, the prices also rose by 0.8%.
In the other kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods remained more dynamic than in large distributors: they rose by 1.9% year on year in May as in April.
Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 1.0% year on year, as in the previous three months.

Slight acceleration in food prices in hyper and supermarkets
In May 2018, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets increased by 0.2% after +0,1% in the previous three months. Year on year, they rose a little less markedly than in April: +0.9% after +1.0%.
The slight acceleration in prices over a month resulted from a sharp rebound in meat prices and an increase a little more marked in those of beverages, partly offset by a slight slowdown in the prices of other food products.
Meat prices rebounded sharply in May (+0.4%) after a 0.1% downturn in April. Year on year, they rose a little more slightly than in the previous two months (+1.3% after +1.4% in March and April).
The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets grew more in May than in April: +0.3% after +0.1%. Year on year, their prices were a little more dynamic than in the previous month (+0.4% after +0.3%).
The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) hardly slowed down in May (+0.1% after +0.2%). Year on year, their increase was the same than in April (+1.0%).
Stability in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
In May, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable after a decrease in the previous month (−0.1%). Year on year, the prices of these products barely accelerated: +0.2% after +0.1% in April.
